· ABSENCE POLICIES
48 HOUR NOTICE FOR ALL ABSENCES
Students must provide 48 hours notice of their impending absence to the school administration by email or by phone. If less than 48 hours notice is provided, the lesson will be forfeited regardless of the reason for the absence: sudden illness, traffic or transit issues, weather issues, etc…
Students are expected to commit to attending their lessons on a weekly basis. In order for a student to truly advance as a musician, and in order to provide our teachers with a steady revenue for a craft in which they have practised and studied countless hours honing, we must discourage truancy and we must set limitations as to the frequency of absences, skipped lessons, furthermore, your consistent attendance can only bring greater benefits to you in the learning of your instrument.
Students may schedule one or more remake lessons within a 12 week period provided advanced notice is given and that there is an availability in the schedule at another day or time within the same week as the student’s regularly scheduled lesson. If there is no availability or there is no suitable alternate time-slot, the student will lose his/her lesson. If a remake lesson is cancelled it cannot be credited.
As a courtesy to your teacher and the administration, please provide us with at least one week’s notice of your intention to quit your music lessons. Please do not assume that a non-payment is a confirmation of your discontinuation. You will be removed from the schedule once when we have received your consent to do so or if we have not received a reply to our renewal confirmation.
In the event that music lessons are cancelled before the end of the paid term, the remaining lessons can either be fully credited for future use (lessons or store purchase) or they can be refunded minus a penalty as provided for by the law. The penalty corresponds to the lowest of the following amounts, $50 or 10 % of the cost of the remaining lessons that have not been taken. The lesser of the two amounts will apply in accordance with the guidelines of the Quebec Consumer Protection Act.
BI-WEEKLY & OCCASIONAL LESSONS
Bi-weekly lessons may be permitted on a case by case basis however please note that bi-weekly time slots cannot be fixed or guaranteed. Students who cannot commit to regular lessons can also enrol as an occasional student and can schedule lessons on an as need basis with a minimum of 24 hours notice.
The administration reserves the right to schedule a substitute teacher in the event of the absence of the student’s regularly scheduled teacher. If for any reason a student is unsatisfied with a lesson given by a substitute, the lesson will be credited.
