Carl’s introduction to the piano began at the age of six under the tutelage of his older cousin, who was also a musician. She taught him a piano repertoire that he would quickly learn and memorize. At the age of eight he was playing folk tunes by ear for friends and family.
His talent for sight reading and memory was soon noticed and developed by his first formal piano teacher at the age of fourteen. Soon thereafter, Carl would perform in numerous recitals at Marianopolis College and the McGill Conservatory of Music from where he would eventually obtain two Music Certificates with high distinction in technique, classical piano repertoire, and sight-reading. He has also studied piano privately at the Université de Montréal where he continues to study with Patrick Cashin.
Carl has pursued his musical ambitions as an accompanist and soloist at various events and venues such as the Montreal International Poetry Festival at Place-des-Arts.
Carl is a patient instructor with a very impassioned and enlightened approach to teaching and is always aspiring to make music more coherent, interesting and enjoyable to learn. He has been teaching piano since 2009.
