RIMMA FINKELSTEIN

Violin teacher

Studies: Masters in Classical Music
State Academy of Music, Minsk (Russia)

Influences: Classical, pop, folk

Rimma discovered her passion for music at the early age of seven when she participated in the school orchestra in her home country of Belarus of the former USSR.  From this age forward, she would begin a musical journey that would transport her to some of the finest music schools & concert halls throughout Europe and Russia.

In addition to mastering her primary instrument the violin, Rimma’s musical training at the University of Minsk would include the study of the piano, music theory as well as the pedagogy and psychology of teaching. It was perhaps her career as Vice Principal and violin teacher at a reputable music school in Mogilov, Belarus, that would ultimately define her career as a bona fide music teacher.

Rimma has been teaching the violin for many years and has encouraged her students to pursue further academic studies by preparing them for exams at the McGill University Conservatory.  Some of her students have had the distinction of obtaining the highest marks and were subsequently invited to participate at the gala concerts held annually at McGill. She has also inspired her students to pursue musical careers some of whom are now performing for various orchestras from the “Dolce Musica” Youth Orchestra to The Montreal Philharmonic Orchestra.  Rimma is a dedicated teacher who has been teaching and inspiring students at music schools in Montreal  such as The National Academy of Music, Italmelodie and École de Musique Ital since 1997.
